Jessica is a senior at California State University, Chico currently studying for her bachelor’s degree in Sociology. She is from Kirkwood, California, located about 30 minutes North of Chico, and is the first in her family to graduate from college. She began working for the Center for Economic Development (CED) in January of 2019, where she spends her time making survey calls, and gathering data from various communities located in California. In her free time, Jessica enjoys being with family and friends, playing field hockey, reading, and swimming.

Paul Fortune

Paul is a senior at California State University, Chico pursuing a degree in Business, Marketing. After graduation, Paul hopes to pursue a career in sales and one day own his own business. He was born and raised in Redondo Beach, CA in Los Angeles County where he grew up playing sports and spending time with friends and family at the beach. In January 2019, Paul began working at the CED where he spends his time making survey calls for various projects. In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf, making new friends, cooking, and trying new things.

Karen is a senior at California State University, Chico currently studying for her bachelor’s degree in Physical Geography with a minor in Environmental Studies and is working on her certificate in Land Use and Environmental Planning.  Before transferring to Chico State, Karen received her associate’s degree in Liberal Arts with a Science, Math and Engineering emphasis from De Anza College.  She began working for the Center for Economic Development (CED) in August of 2017, where spends her time working on various projects, making survey calls, and editing our website.  In her free time, Karen enjoys the outdoors, reading, spending time with family, and playing with her dog.

Amanda is a senior at California State University, Chico currently studying for her bachelor's degree in Economics with a minor in Applied Statistics and is working towards her certificate in GIS. She is from Fairfield, California, which is located in the North Bay. She began working for the Center for Economic Development (CED) in November of 2016, and spends her time working on various projects including data research, the CED monthly newsletter, marketing, managing our social medias and editing our website. She hopes to expand her economic knowledge and experience through the projects she works on. In her free time, Amanda enjoys drawing, swimming, reading and playing chess.

Melissa Kovacs

Melissa is a senior at California State University, Chico currently working towards a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration with a minor in Middle Eastern Studies. Most of her life has been spent as a Chico local, with minor life detours of living in both Uganda and Israel. Melissa began working at the Center for Economic Development in January 2019 and spends most of her time making survey calls on various CED projects. When she has free time, Melissa enjoys pottery, learning Arabic, drinking tea, and exploring Bidwell Park.

Cassie is a senior at California State University, Chico working towards her Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Business with an Animal Science minor. She is originally from Davis, California, and gained an interest in agriculture when she joined her high school FFA chapter. Cassie started working for the Center for Economic Development (CED) in May 2018, and is excited to be gaining the skillset needed for her career. In her free time, Cassie enjoys reading, listening to music, and being with friends, family and animals.

Nicholas is a senior at California State University, Chico currently studying for his bachelor’s degree in Economics. Nicholas started working for the Center for Economic Development in January of 2019, and is excited to expand his economic knowledge through his involvement with the CED. Nicholas plans on graduating in May of 2019 and hopes to pursue a graduate degree in Economics after. He enjoys traveling, reading, and drawing in his spare time.

She is originally from Phoenix, Arizona and became interested in Business from her father who has a degree in Business Finance. Alyssa started working for the Center of Economic Development in September 2018, and is excited to learn more about economic data analysis. In her free time, Alyssa likes to play soccer, go on runs, and spend time with her family and friends.

Will graduated in May 2017 with a B.A. degree in Economics from California State University, Chico. Will is continuing to pursue his Master’s degree at Chico State in Public Administration and will be completed in May 2019. Will is a Chico local, graduating from Pleasant Valley High School. He Joined the Center for Economic Development in February 2017, and expects that his time at the CED will continue to provide him with valuable experience, strengthening his knowledge of economics, data analysis and marketing outreach through the various projects that he will be working on. In his free time, Will enjoys hiking upper-park, golfing, and working on his car.
